Previously Unreleased: College IS Mandatory.

This is a quote from the President (heard from a PBS documentary), “Every American will need to get more than a high school diploma, and by 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.” This is what I expressed concern about in a post of a similar title. In addition to making college mandatory, higher education has joined the rest of the current educational system as a means of economical gain and one upmanship. In a PBS documentary about the rise of “for profit” colleges Barmak Nissirian had this to say when asked if education is a business:

I believe so. Listen, I’m happy that there are places in the world where people can sit around and think. We need that, um, but that’s very expensive, and not everybody can do that. So for the vast majority of folks who don’t get that privilege, I think it’s a business.

The documentary is called college inc.
